Step-by-step guide to building your Pulse chatbot

In this article, you'll discover the optimal sequence for building an efficient Pulse chatbot and how to activate it on your channels!

If you haven't created a chatbot yet, start by creating one. Creating a chatbot is explained in this article.

Step 1: Entering Domain knowledge

Once you've created a chatbot or are editing an existing chatbot (via Pulse, by clicking on the edit icon in the desired chatbot), you'll land in the 'Domain knowledge' menu item. Here, you give your chatbot an identity: Who is it? Which company does it work for? What personality does it have?

Step 2: Adding Sources

Now that your chatbot has an identity, you'll add all relevant knowledge from your website and any documents using the 'Web Crawler', ‘Document Scraper' and ‘AI Search’ under the 'Sources' menu item.

Step 3: Testing!

Your chatbot now has an identity and access to knowledge and information from the added URLs and documents. It's time to test how your chatbot handles this knowledge! Use the 'Interactive tester' to ask questions that you expect visitors to the chatbot to ask. This way, you can see how your chatbot responds. While many questions may already be answered correctly, some adjustments may be necessary.

Step 4: Adding Instructions

To fine-tune your chatbot further, you can add Instructions to your chatbot from the Interactive Tester or from the 'Instructions' section. These instructions guide your chatbot on how to respond in specific situations.

Only add a new instruction if it concerns a subject about which no instruction already exists. If an instruction about it has already been created, it is important to optimize and/or complement that instruction.

Step 5: Retesting & Adjusting Instructions

After adding instructions, return to the Interactive tester to see if the instructions yield the desired results. If not, you can adjust instructions or add more information until your chatbot behaves exactly as you want.

Step 6: Situations

Although optional, you can add safety filters and set up handoff, to be found under 'Situations'.

Step 7: Activate Your Chatbot!

Now you're ready to activate your chatbot on the channels you've chosen.

Here's how to do it.

Step 8: Monitor Incoming Conversations and Optimize Your Chatbot

It's crucial to monitor incoming conversations and assess whether your chatbot is responding as desired. If not, you can adjust existing Instructions or add new ones to continuously improve your chatbot.
