Security software and connectivity issues with Watermelon

This article will help you when Watermelon can't connect, and it isn't a network issue.

For network issues, check this Help Center article for help.

How security software affects connectivity

Security software, such as firewalls and antivirus programs, is designed to protect your system. However, these tools can sometimes block Watermelon, preventing it from functioning correctly. Common causes include:

  • Firewalls blocking Watermelon’s connection.
  • Overprotective antivirus settings treating Watermelon as a threat.
  • VPNs or proxy settings interfering with the browser or app.

Similarly, browser plugins like ad blockers, privacy extensions, or script blockers may restrict Watermelon from loading its resources, causing connectivity problems.

Troubleshooting security software

Follow these steps to ensure that your security software isn’t blocking Watermelon:

Check firewall settings

  • Open your firewall settings (refer to your operating system or firewall provider’s guide).
  • Look for blocked applications or recent activity logs.
  • Add Watermelon to the firewall’s list of allowed programs or “exceptions.”

Review antivirus settings

  • Open your antivirus program and check if Watermelon has been flagged or blocked.
  • Add Watermelon to the “allowed list” or “exclusions” to ensure it can run without interference.

VPN or proxy settings

  • If you’re using a VPN or proxy, try disabling it temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Alternatively, check your VPN settings to ensure Watermelon traffic isn’t being blocked.

Browser plugins and extensions

Some browser plugins, particularly those focused on privacy or ad blocking, may inadvertently block Watermelon’s functionality. Here’s how to identify and resolve such issues:

Disable plugins temporarily

  • Disable all browser plugins and try reconnecting to Watermelon. If it works, one of the plugins may be causing the issue.
  • Gradually enable plugins one by one to identify the culprit.

Adjust plugin settings

  • For ad blockers (e.g., AdBlock or uBlock Origin), add Watermelon to the list of “trusted” or “whitelisted” sites.
  • Privacy tools, like Ghostery or Privacy Badger, may block essential scripts. Adjust their settings to allow Watermelon’s functionality.

Clear cache and cookies

  • In your browser settings, clear your cache and cookies. This ensures no outdated or conflicting data is causing the problem.
