Automatically fill in default fields

In this article, you’ll learn what Automatically fill in default fields does and how it helps your AI Agent capture and store valuable user information during conversations.

What is Automatically fill in default fields?

Automatically fill in default fields enables your AI Agent to extract and assign values to default and fields based on the information users provide during conversations. It helps you keep contact profiles up-to-date without manual effort, working silently in the background.

Whenever a user shares a relevant piece of information—such as an email address, phone number, or a date—the AI Agent detects it and automatically fills the appropriate field. This only applies to information explicitly shared by the user, not generated by the AI Agent itself.

Which field types are supported?

The following field types can be automatically updated:

  • Free text
  • Number
  • Email
  • Phone
  • Date

Dropdown fields are not supported.

How does the AI Agent recognize what to fill in?

The AI Agent uses contextual understanding and natural language processing to identify and assign values. For example:

  • If a user says “Here’s my email: john@example.com”, the email address will be filled in automatically.
  • If multiple values are shared (e.g., “You can reach me at john@example.com or info@example.com”), the AI Agent will ask for clarification before assigning a value.

If a field already contains a value, the AI Agent may overwrite it—only if the current context clearly indicates that the user is updating their information.

How is this handled in the background?

Automatically fill in default fields works silently:

  • The user is not notified.
  • There is no message or sidebar indication.
  • Updates are made directly in the contact profile and shown instantly in the Fields view.
