What is “Automatically Capturing Browser Data”?

This feature collects standard data—such as browser type, operating system, location, and session information—automatically when a visitor uses the chat widget. The data is stored in default fields that cannot be edited or removed.

What data is automatically captured?

The following data is added to the contact profile as default fields:

  • Browser language: Language code (ISO 639-1), e.g., nl, en
  • Browser: Type of browser, e.g., Chrome, Safari
  • Browser version: Version number of the browser
  • Operating system (OS): Device OS, e.g., Windows, Android
  • First seen: First time the user sent a message
  • Last seen: Last time the user actively had the widget open
  • Last contacted: Last message sent by a Watermelon user
  • Last heard from: Last message sent by the user
  • Web sessions: Number of sessions since the first contact

Where can you see this data?

The data appears in:

  • The Contact Profile
  • The Conversation View
  • Settings > Fields (fields cannot be edited or removed)

The fields are only populated after a user sends a new message or triggers a new event. For existing contacts, fields will be filled retroactively at the next interaction.

Enabling or Disabling the Feature

This functionality is enabled by default. You can choose whether or not to capture this data. To enable or disable the feature:

  • Go to the relevant chat widget via Apps.
  • Navigate to Placement.

When disabled, the fields won’t appear in contact profiles or conversations.
