Use case: Letting the chatbot share documents

You want to make certain documents available to your customers through your chatbot, such as manuals or product information. However, the Watermelon chatbot currently cannot send documents directly. You can, however, train your chatbot to share links to files. This article explains how the process works.

We also have an open feature request for this. If you find this an interesting feature, feel free to add your vote!

Step 1: Files

The chatbot cannot send files directly from Watermelon, but you can train it to send links (URLs) to documents. For this, the files need to have their own URL. If your file already has an URL, you can proceed to writing instructions for the chatbot. Make sure the URL is publicly accessible.

Creating a URL within Watermelon:

  1. Upload the document in the Document Scraper.
  2. Download the document from the Document Scraper.
  3. Open the document in your web browser. The URL in the address bar is the direct link to your document.
  4. You can now delete the document from the Document Scraper if desired. If you want the chatbot to use the information from the document to answer questions, leave the document in the Scraper.

Step 2: Writing Instructions

Now that you have the URL of your file, you need to instruct the chatbot on when and how to send these document links.

Example 1:

Installation of Product X
For all questions regarding the installation of Product X, or how to install Product X, send this link: *Document URL*

Example 2:

Manual for Product Y
If someone asks for the manual of Product Y, always send this link: *Document URL*

Important:
Every time you update your document, you will need to replace the Document URL in the chatbot's instructions.
