Notification preferences

An agent can set his or her personal notification preferences to determine how he or she wants a new chat to be announced. In this article we explain how to set this up.

You will find your notification preferences under the settings within Watermelon:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Click on Notification preferences.

You can choose to receive notifications on your desktop or in your email.

Desktop preferences

Do you want to receive notifications on chatbot conversations, unassigned, my conversations, or all of them? Then choose whether you want to receive notifications only on each new conversation, or on a new message. Under Sound notification, you can choose whether you want to hear a sound or not.

Email preferences

Next, choose when you want to receive an email notification of a new conversation. Choose from chatbot conversations, unassigned, my conversations, or all. You will then receive a preview of the conversation in your email inbox.

We recommend that you turn on all notifications except the desktop and email preferences for chatbot conversations. By doing so, you will always pick up the live chats quickly!

Browser notifications:

At Watermelon you will receive the default browser notifications from your favourite browser. Watermelon recommends using one of the following browsers:

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari
  • Microsoft Edge

When you click on the notification you will be taken directly to the relevant conversation.

You do need to allow pop-ups for the Watermelon dashboard in your default browser as you may accidentally block the notifications, which will cause pop-ups, tab notifications and sounds to not work.

You can easily allow browser notifications in the following way:

  • First, make sure you have the Watermelon platform tab open.
  • Then click on the lock icon at the top left of the Google Chrome browser.
  • Here, click on the dropdown menu next to Notifications and select Allow there (see the example below).

If you have done this, you still need to set notifications for your web browser from your PC settings.

For Apple devices:

  • Click on the Apple icon at the top left.
  • Click on System Preferences.
  • Click on Notifications and focus.
  • Find your default browser in the list and select how you want to receive notifications there.

For Windows devices:

  • Click the Windows icon in the lower left corner.
  • Click Settings. Then click on System.
  • Click on Notifications & Actions.
  • Scroll down and find your default browser. Select how you want to receive the notifications.

I am not receiving notification preferences via email

Check if the settings explain before are set correctly.

Are you still not getting emails while the settings are as above? Then it may be that the domain name through which Watermelon sends email notifications has been placed on the 'greylist'. E-mails with the domain name "@watermelon.co" will then be delayed and/or blocked. In doing so, it is possible that your spam filter marks the notification emails from Watermelon as 'spam'.

You can resolve this as follows:

  • Contact the administrator/administrator of your email system.
  • Ask this person to add the domain name "@watermelon.co" to the 'whitelist'.
  • Optional: ask this person to update the mail program to the latest version.

Not receiving sound notifications

  1. Use the 'Test sound' button at Notifications preferences at desktop preferences to check if you hear the sound notification. If you can't hear the sound, try increasing the volume.
  2. Make sure that the notification sound is turned on or device settings. Sometimes, the notification sound may be turned off by mistake, or Watermelon may not be allowed to play sounds in the background.
  3. If you are not receiving sound notifications, check your sound settings. Ensure that the sound is not muted or turned off, and the volume is turned up.
  4. Lastly, ensure that the sound is playing on the device you are currently using. If not, try changing the device the sound is playing on. To do this, go to the device settings and select the audio output device.

How to Edit Sound Settings on Windows users:

  1. Click on the Windows Start menu and select the gear icon to open the Settings app.
  2. Click on the System option in the Settings app.
  3. From the System settings, select the Sound option from the left-hand menu.
  4. In the Sound settings, check that the volume is turned up and that the device you want to use for audio output is selected under the Output tab.
  5. To adjust the sound for specific apps, click on the App volume and device preferences option under the Advanced sound options section. Here you can select which device you want to use for audio output and adjust the volume for specific apps.

How to Edit Sound Settings on Mac users:

  1. Click on the Apple icon on the top left corner of your screen and select System Preferences from the dropdown menu.
  2. Click on the Sound option in the System Preferences window.
  3. In the Sound settings, check that the volume is turned up and that the device you want to use for audio output is selected under the Output tab.
  4. To adjust the sound for specific apps, click on the Output tab and select the app you want to adjust from the list of running apps.
