This article explains how to easily protect and manage your customer data with GDPR compliance.
- Open Settings.
- Go to GDPR Compliance.
- Toggle GDPR compliance on or off. When enabled, you can configure the following:
- Under Delete data, choose how often customer data should be deleted: week, month, or year.
- Under Older than, set the age of data you want to delete. For example, if you chose “week” under Delete data, you can now select: 1 week, 2 weeks, or 3 weeks.
Example: If you choose “week” and “1 week”, then every day at 00:00 AM (CEST), all data older than 1 week will be deleted.
What gets deleted?
When you enable data deletion, all conversations and contact details of the end user will be permanently deleted—unless the contact still has an active conversation within the retention period. In that case, the contact remains.
The deleted conversations and contacts will no longer be visible in Watermelon, nor included in conversation exports. They are permanently erased and cannot be recovered.
How to disable this setting
To disable GDPR compliance, simply select Off under Turn GDPR compliance on or off.
