Measuring conversion from the chatbot

Do you want to know how many leads or customers you acquire through the chatbot? You can measure this by using a unique link that is shared exclusively via the chatbot.

By using a unique link, you can analyze how many visitors reach a specific page (such as a quote request or purchase) through the chatbot.

How to measure conversion from the chatbot

You can track conversions by using a unique URL with a UTM tag or a dedicated landing page. Below, we explain both methods.

Method 1: Unique URL with UTM tag

A UTM tag is a small piece of extra information added to a URL, allowing you to track where a visitor comes from in Google Analytics.

Step 1: Create a UTM Tag

Use the Google UTM Builder and fill in the fields:

  • Website URL: The link to your quote request or purchase page.
  • Campaign source: chatbot (to identify visitors coming from the chatbot).
  • Campaign medium: chat (or another term of your choice).
  • Campaign name: quote_request (or another relevant description).

Example UTM Link: https://www.yourwebsite.com/quote?utm_source=chatbot&utm_medium=chat&utm_campaign=quote_request

Step 2: Add the link to the chatbot’s knowledge

  • Open your chatbot in Watermelon.
  • In Domain Knowledge, add an instruction specifying when the unique link should be sent and provide the URL.

Example instruction:If someone wants to request a quote, send them this link: https://www.yourwebsite.com/quote?utm_source=chatbot&utm_medium=chat&utm_campaign=quote_request.

Step 3: Analyze the results

  • Open Google Analytics and go to Acquisition > Campaigns > All Campaigns.
  • Search for the campaign (e.g., “quote_request”).
  • Check how many visitors accessed the page via the chatbot.

Method 2: Dedicated landing page

Alternatively, you can create a separate landing page that is only shared through the chatbot.

Step 1: Create a dedicated landing page

For example: https://www.yourwebsite.com/chatbot-quote

Step 2: Add the link to the chatbot’s knowledge

  • Open your chatbot in Watermelon.
  • In Domain Knowledge, add an instruction specifying when the unique link should be sent and provide the URL.

Example instruction: If someone wants to request a quote, send them this link: https://www.yourwebsite.com/chatbot-quote.

Step 3: Use Google Analytics or your CMS statistics

This allows you to track how many people visit this page.
