Combine input fields with custom fields

Custom fields are a powerful feature within Watermelon. What impact do custom fields have on existing input fields? You can read that in this article.

Note: this article is about the Legacy chatbot. Are you looking for articles about the Pulse chatbot? You can find them here.

I want to use custom fields in conversations. What should I do with the existing input fields?

If you want to use custom fields you will have to change the existing input fields. You do this by rebuilding the conversation and replacing the input fields with custom fields. How to create a custom field can be found here

Can I keep using my current input fields?

The input fields function will continue to exist. This means you can continue to use them in your conversations. We recommend the use of custom fields because they have many advantages. With custom fields you have full control over the data you collect. Your chatbot can request this data from the visitor and link it to the relevant customer profile. This is not possible when you use input fields. How to add a custom field to a conversation can be found here

Can I use both input fields and custom fields in a conversation?

You can use both options in the same conversation. However, we recommend to use custom fields. This feature within Watermelon gives you much more possibilities than the existing input fields.
